History
In 1981, Marilyn Ricci launched Cornucopia Food Service, Inc., a food service management company at St. Joseph College in West Hartford, CT. At that time St. Joseph College was looking for a registered dietician to run their food service and teach food service management to dietetic students. Marilyn with her husband, Joseph Ricci, founded the company in July 1981 in time to begin the fall semester at St. Joseph College. Initially, they worked in every position and established a commitment to quality service.
In 1983, Cornucopia grew. Several new accounts were added and in December of 1983 a banquet hall located in Torrington, CT came under Cornucopia's ownership. In addition to banquets, the Torrington site is a contract food service for Meals on Wheels and Congragate Food Service for the elderly. In addition, Cornucopia has provided food service for preschool children, Head-Start, the U.S. Marines, and business cafeterias.
The Torrington site has gradually been renovated and enlarged over the years. Today, it is an attractive banquest hall with a fine reputation in the northwest part of the state.
Marilyn Ricci, President, is a registered dietician with twenty plus years experience in food service managment. She has trained food service workers throughout the state and country and teaches food service management at the college level.
Joseph Ricci, Treasurer/Secretary, has almost fifteen years of experience of food service management. Prior to joining Cornucopia, Joseph was in education and worked for a hotel chain in banquet service.
Cornucopia Food Service, Inc. has always been a local company. It is proud to be able to offer customers and employees the reassurance that top management is always near-by.
Cornucopia's staff has excelled in customer service. James Dean, the Manager in Torrington, has been featured in the Torrington Register. The banquet hall and elderly feeding prorgams have received many accolades from the communitites they serve. Cornucopia at St. Joseph College has compiled a file of "Thank you" notes for outstanding service.
